Chief Complaint: Thyroid Nodule
a. History: Exposure to ionizing radiation, family history of thyroid cancer, and syndromes with an elevated risk of thyroid cancer, including Cowden disease, familial adenomatous polyposis, and multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2. Any history of rapid nodule growth or hoarseness ought to be elicited, though the majority of thyroid nodules are asymptomatic. Physical examination should evaluate for the presence of a palpable, fixed nodule and cervical lymphadenopathy, although only 4% to 7% of patients have palpable nodules.
